ADU or accessory dwelling unit has become an appealing home ownership tread allowing a guesthouse or in-law suite on an existing residential lot. Often limited by local zoning codes, many cities are now realizing this as one tool towards gaining affordable housing in their community. As a homeowner, advantages include extending housing options to family members or providing extra income thru a rental unit.
Phoenix is one of many cities that have recently revised their zoning codes to allow these housing options. There are still many regulations in providing an ADU, but home lots typically found in established parts of town could allow.
Linderoth Architects has worked extensively in alterative residential types including ADU's, build-to-rent apartments, and tiny homes.
